Do you like hidden treasures? Hells Canyon is one of America’s last such gems, and it’s only 17 miles from Idaho’s Swiftwater RV Park!
From our campground, travel to Hells Canyon on the well-maintained gravel road by ATV, motorbike, pick-up truck or automobile. Just hook a left after crossing the Silver Bridge seen from all of our RV and tent spaces, and soon you’ll be at the top of the Pittsburg Saddle Viewpoint looking at this impressive view. It’s so stunning, that before descending into the canyon, it’s well worth your time to park, walk around, snap a few pics and even bring out the picnic basket to enjoy a snack or lunch at the picnic table. The view is westward, beginning at the edge of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area in Idaho and across to Oregon (the snow-capped mountains in this picture) and down to the Wild and Scenic Snake River in the Canyon floor.
While camping at Swiftwater – whether you’re pitching a tent, glamping in a vintage trailer, or enjoying an RV of any size – you’ll enjoy a view of ‘our river’ – the Salmon River – and these amenities our pet-friendly private campground is pleased to offer all of our guests:
- Free Wifi
- Large, clean restrooms & showers
- Covered Gazebo with fire-pit (we provide firewood
- Pavilion, complete with 3 picnic tables and a BBQ and perfect for group meals
- Stairs down to the Salmon River
- RV dump station
- Grassy lawn areas (nice to play games or pitch tents)
- Fabulous 5-acre public lands adjacent to the campground (walk, fish & swim)
Back to our hidden treasure – Hells Canyon! It is a 652,488-acre designated National Recreation Area that meanders along both sides of the Snake River (the state boundary between Idaho and Oregon). Travelers to Hells Canyon can enjoy activities such as taking a hike, an ATV ride or fishing, but the best way to explore and enjoy this pristine wilderness is by jet boat on the Snake River. About 15 jet-boat operators are licensed to operate on the Snake River in Hells Canyon and our neighbor launches directly from Pittsburg Landing. Other job-boat operators will stop and pick you up at Pittsburg. The neat thing is that all you have to do is book a seat with one of these jet boat tour companies ahead of time, and then drive to Pittsburg Landing (about a 45 minute drive from Swiftwater RV Park). No experience required! Just hop on the boat for a trip of a lifetime!
